National History Day 2027
The theme for National History Day® (NHD) 2027 is Innovation in History: Impact, Influence, Change. Innovation goes beyond creating new tools or devices to finding new ways of thinking, organizing, and influencing society. To put it simply, innovation, at its core, is about change and the impact of that change.
To fully explore innovation in a historical context, we must look beyond the idea itself and examine its effects. How did people, over time, imagine, develop, and implement new ideas, technologies, or methods? And in what ways did those innovations influence societies?

Innovation
"a new idea, method, or device." The verb “to innovate” is defined as a way “to introduce a new process or way of doing things.”
Innovation, at its core, is about change and the impact of that change.
Impact
Noun: a significant or major effect of one thing on another
Verb: to have a strong and noticeable influence on someone or something
When people talk about an "impact" on society or your life, they mean the lasting mark or big change left behind by an action, event, or choice.
Influence
Noun: The capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of others.
Verb: to affect or change someone or something in an indirect but usually important way
To influence means to sway how someone acts, thinks, or feels without forcing them to do it. It means your choices naturally make other people want to do the same thing.
Change
Noun: The act, process, or result of making or becoming different
Verb: To make radically different; transform
Any shift, flip, or makeover that makes something different than it used to be. To switch things up, transform, or swap one thing out for another.
